Ok, just before we go on to “Why Social Bookmarking?”, we need to understand what is a backlink first.

What is a Backlink?

The backlink is a link on someone else’s site that leads to your own, and it’s extremely important to get a much such links as possible for several reasons. This term is often used as people are seeking Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for their websites. Why people are crazy over backlinks is because it has got to do with Google’s search engine algorithm. 

Google uses backlinks as one of the ways as a determining factor to rank a page or site. If you have huge numbers of links linking to your site, high chances that your website will be on the first page of the Search Results. Remember, high traffic is what you need, the more people who know about your site, the merrier.

Ok, previously I mentioned that I do like Google as I am really impressed with their search engine and still is. However, I also come to read about sites who advertise in other search engines and not in Google, do not have better page ranks compared to the past, makes me rather unhappy that Google is practically telling everyone that in order to get a good page rank, they got to advertise with Google.

It sort of contradicts their tagline – Don’t Be Evil, but they ARE evil to eliminate competition this way.
