Many People Focus on the % of Success in Bookmarking

This is what I call myopic in bookmarking. I often see people in forums posting “Why the success rate is low”, “the tool doesn’t work”, “It sucks” (the list goes on).

Ask yourself. Why did you buy the tool? You want automation. To free yourself from the manual work. So that you can focus on making more money!

Don’t tell me that you run the tool and watches till it complete. Rejoicing when you see high percentage of success and swear when you see failures. That is not the way to use the tool!

What I do is simply have a large list of bookmarking sites added into BookmarkingDemon. Everyday just add couple of web pages and mix it with my own bookmarks and submit. I just repeat that. Not bothering if I am getting 50% of success or 80% of success. Even 20% is a decent backlinks if you have 1000 sites in your belt.

The Odds of Getting a 100% Success Rate.

It’s tiny!

In a soccer game (it’s WorldCup 2010 afterall), you have a goalkeeper preventing you from striking GOAL.

In the bookmarking game, sites are always changing so frequently. The change is like the goalkeeper, doing their best to combat bookmarking tools and spam. Sites die. Backlinks perish with the dead sites too.

Even if you setup your own bookmark farms, you will not be able to obtain 100% success rate (though the % will surely be very high). You might disagree, but it’s like your own Internet connection. It does not give you 100% uptime.

Failed Submissions Make Things Look Natural!

Yes you read me. Even unsuccessful submission helped to make things look more natural.

A Successful SEO Campaign Makes Money. But… How?

  • Quality content – This is very important. Only good content can last.
  • Relevancy – How relevant is a backlink to your post? Relevancy of backlinks carry decent weight. It is certainly weird to link a cooking recipe post to a automobile post.
  • The more the merrier - Add as many sites into BookmarkingDemon to bookmark your URLs to. This increased the number of backlinks built.
  • Get a good mix – A site that goes viral, will certainly have all kinds of backlinks. They can come in big swarm. Or they can come in small waves. It doesn’t really matter.Include article submission, blog commenting, forum posting, and etc. Plus, all these gotta be done in a “natural” way. Spread your activities out so that the tool emulates what you want to do the manual way.If your site is good, you are ready for a visual inspection. Anytime.

Are you focusing on the more important things?

Uncharted Waters

Many of us like to download software from the Internet. The Internet is like the uncharted waters. Filled with unknown dangers. Any software that we download into our PC might be infected with virus. How do you know if a program that you have downloaded is really free of virus? How do you know if a software that you downloaded does not come with any “freebies”?

Peter Pan of the Internet?

Enter the kind folks at VirusTotal.com. They provide a free service that allows you to upload any software to their server (as long as it is not more than 20 megabytes in file size) and 39 anti-virus software (and still growing) will be deployed to scan your file for any unwanted friends.

Wait…

Before you even want to upload a file to VirusTotal for scanning, someone else could have already done so. It is always faster to do a search using their  ”Hash Search” feature to check.

What this “Hash Search” feature does is that you will need to obtain the hash (md5, sha1, sha256) value of the file that you would like to scan, and enter that into the search box. Hit search and if it already exist, the report of the file will be returned. This saves you plenty of time and you will not have to overload the server at VirusTotal end.

You can obtain a free md5 checksum software from: http://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/winmd5sum_portable

Bon Voyage!

Wish you have a safe ride when you download any software from the Internet.

Trick #1: Easy Data Management in BookmarkingDemon 5

It’s been a while since the last update of this blog. I shall be active again. :)

Alike the real world, there are many types of management styles. I will share with you a neat and brilliant way of managing my projects. The trick is to create separate data files.

Cloning .BMD5 files

To create a separate data file, I copy and paste my existing “data.bmd5” file and save it as a different filename e.g. “MyPanCake.bmd5″ file. The next time when I want to bookmark my pan cake recipes, I just double-click on the data file and BMD5 will launch it.

I have multiple data files (“MyCookies.bmd5″, “MyTiramisu.bmd5″, “MyCheeseCakes.bmd5″, and so forth) stored in a separate folder.

I also have a shortcut created for this folder. So that every time I want to open a project, I will double-click the shortcut to open this folder, and double click on the data file (E.g. MyTiramisu.bmd5″) that I would like to use and BMD5 will launch automatically.

Run as Administrator

A tip for friends using Windows Vista or Windows 7. I was previously using BMD5 on Windows XP which automatically associate .bmd5 files with BMD5. However, in Windows 7 (applicable to Vista too), this does not happen automatically. You need to run BMD5 in admin mode so that BMD5 can register the .bmd5 file type to itself.

To do so, right click on EdwinSoft.BookmarkingDemon.exe shortcut and choose “Run as administrator”. Once that is done, restart BMD5. Next time, you can simply double-click on .bmd5 file to open them in BMD5.

Backup Backup & More Backup!

How to backup your precious work in BMD5? For me, i simply copy all my .bmd5 data files to an external harddisk. I suggest you do that too. When bad things happen, they happen together. Remember! BACKUP!

Tip #1 – Unmanned Bookmarking using Projects in BookmarkingDemon 5

BookmarkingDemon 5 is finally here. It arrived with a huge BANG (you get to read a lot of bad feedback on it). Version 5.0.0.3 was a bummer. The recent updates are slowly putting BMD back to where it should really be.

Today I will share with you on how we can make use of project to segregate our tasks.

—————————-

As we all know, bookmarking sites uses CAPTCHA to prevent automated tools from submitting bookmarks to them. And BMD5 requires manual input on the CAPTCHA field.

How Do I Perform Unmanned Bookmarking?

Well, it is simple, just exclude those bookmarking sites that require captcha input.

Let me show you the EXACT Steps to perform unmanned bookmarking now.

Step 1 # Create A Project

At the Dashboard, click on the NEW button. Let’s name it as ‘No Captcha’ so that I will know this project will contain all bookmarking sites without captcha input.

Step 2 # Filter/Delete Bookmarking Sites In Your Project

Next, you can set your newly created Project as Default. We need to manage the social bookmarking sites in there to no captcha input. Let’s go the ‘Social Bookmarking Sites’ Tab. You will see all the default sites are inside ‘No Captcha’ project.

To select the sites for deletion, we need to press the ‘CTRL’ key and select the sites we want to delete by clicking the left mouse button. Correctly selected sites will become BLUE. The check boxes beside the bookmarking sites are for selecting the sites for bookmarking only.

After selecting the sites, Click the ‘Remove Bookmarking Sites’ button to remove the sites.

Alternatively, you can use the FILTER icon located right below this image. Click this icon and you will see this popup. Hidden bookmarking sites will not be used.

With these 2 steps, you need not be sitting in front of the screen to key in captchas.

Just proceed to add your URLs in ‘My Web Pages’ tab, then go to the ‘Bookmarking’ tab to generate the bookmarks. Once done, press ‘START’ to start bookmarking and you are done.

You have just learnt how to go the handsfree mode while bookmarking. Hope this helps.

PS: Here’s a tip. If you wanna restore all those bookmarking sites you have deleted, click the ‘Restore Bookmarking Sites’ button. To restore ALL bookmarking sites you have deleted, press ‘CTRL’ + ‘A’ in your keyboard to select all and click ‘OK’ in BMD5.
